William Sinclaire of Ligfordrum
William Sinclaire, a Presbyterian, was a farmer in the townland of Ligfordrum, near Newtonstewart, in Co Tyrone. His son was James Sinclair, who was born about 1840. James married Margaret Johnston in 1854 at the Douglas Meeting House, Strabane.
James and Margaret had four children, the last of whom died an infant in 1865. This was the same year his mother died, so her death was probably a consequence of childbirth – the unnamed child died on 25 November and Margaret died on 19 December. Their two eldest daughters – Sarah Jane and Margaret, both emigrated to New Zealand.
James remarried on 12 March 1867 at Newtonstewart. His second wife was Matilda Buchanan, born at Kirlish, Longford West, Co Tyrone. They had a further six children before Matilda died in 1881. At the 1901 Census, James was still living at Ligfordrum, together with his son David and daughter Liza. A year after James died on 24 December 1907, his son married Sarah Patterson in Strabane.
