The Sinclairs of Cloghoge, Co Armagh
Griffith’s Valuation of 1847-1864 recorded that James Sinclair leased from Archibald and James Erskine 27a 1r 10p of land in the townland of Cloghoge, parish of Creggan, with an annual rateable value of £14 15s, and a house and offices with a rateable value of £3 10s.
At the Census in 1901, Robert Sinclair was a farmer at Cloghoge, together with his wife Jane and three of their children. Robert died 29 December 1908, leaving Jane all he possessed, but if she should marry again, she would receive £40 from his son James, who would inherit the farm, stock and furniture, subject to him paying his brother John £35 one year after his mother’s death. His daughter Jane was to receive £30 in two instalments two years and four years after her mother’s death, and his daughter Mary Jane the sum of 2s 6d. He nominated his brother-in-law James Crozier of Lurgannearly, Co Monaghan as his Executor. Probate was granted at Armagh on 8 June 1909.
